The MS dates from c. 1258-1265. Within the latitude of the genre of 'customary', it is virtually an ordinal regulating liturgical practice. Norwich was founded at the transfer of the see from Thetford in 1094, and the cathedral priory followed in general the usages of Fécamp, where the first Bishop of Norwich, Herbert Losinga (d. 1119), had been prior.
