First of 3 vols. The MS edited here was probably written in the abbacy of Thomas Pygot (1398-1405) and gives a very full impression of the liturgical and social life of a great Benedictine abbey. It had been transcribed some fifty years earlier by Dom Aidan Gasquet and Edmund Bishop in preparation for publication. When a cardinal, Gasquet gave his copy to Stanbrook, asking them to retranscribe it with a view to publication. This was done, rotographs of the original MS being consulted.
