In a circular letter dated 8 Octooer 1961, Francis Wormald, Chairman of Council of the Bradshaw Society, explained that the editor of this work (Fr S.J.P. van Dijk, OFM) was later in disagree- ment with the Society and asked that the work be issued anony- mously, which was done. These difficulties also led to the omission of pages 1-18 after pagination of the proofs.

The texts edited are:

  • Ordo Breviarii: from Mende, Bibliothèque municipale, MS 1; Padua, Biblioteca Antoniana, MS VI.104; MS VI.108; Padua, Biblioteca universitaria, MS 1883; Paris, Bibliothèque nationale, MS lat. 1110; Bibliotheca Apostolica Vaticana, MS Vaticanus lat. 7659; MS Barberinianus lat. 698.
  • Ordo ad Benedicendum Mensam: from Assisi, Biblioteca commu- nale, MS 261; Assisi, Convento San Damiano, MS 'Breviary of St Clare'; Padua, Biblioteca Antoniana, MS VI.104; MS VI.108; Padua, Biblioteca universitaria, MS 1888; Mende, Bibliothèque municipale, MS 1; Paris, Bibliothèque nationale, MS lat. 1110; Bibliotheca Apostolica Vaticana, MS Vaticanus lat. 7659; MS Barberiniartus lat. 698.
  • Ordo Missalis Fratrum Minorum: from Mende, Bibliothèque municipale, MS 1; Padua, Biblioteca Antoniana, MS VI.104; Padua, Biblioteca capitolare, MS C.47; MS D.34; Paris, Bibliothèque nationale, MS lat. 1110; Bibliotheca Apostolica Vaticana, MS Vaticanus lat. 7659; MS Barberinianus lat. 698; Verona, Biblioteca communale, MS 573; with the printed edition of [Missale secundum consuetudinem romane curie], Antonio Zarotto, Milano, 1474 (WB 852).

The lack of editorial matter can to some extent be supplied from other published work of Fr van Dijk. See, in particular, Stephen Joseph Peter van Dijk & Joan Hazelden Walker, The Origins of the Modern Roman Liturgy, Newman Press, Westminster, Maryland / Darton, Longman & Todd, London, 1960, esp. pp. 292-320.
